Species, habitats and ecosystems, are under an ever-increasing threat. Many species and habitats are in decline and in some cases their future is endangered. Undoubtedly human behaviour now causes, directly and indirectly, considerable loss of biological diversity. In Ireland today, habitat degradation and loss is the main factor eroding biodiversity.
Situated on a site of outstanding natural beauty and important habitat, the Hook Lighthouse Visitor Centre appreciates the importance of preserving the natural heritage for future generations and interpreting that heritage to our visitors.
We monitor the wildlife on a daily basis and we work in conjunction with Birdwatch Ireland and IWDG to gather information such as numbers present of different bird, wildlife and marine species.
