Hook Lighthouse and visitor centre is opened all year round, with tours, cafe, gift shop and free amenities.

Christmas Closing dates:  20th to 25th inclusive
Open 26th Dec. at 11am and all through the rest of the holiday period.

Last admission: 30 min. before closing time

Approx. visit duration: Allow 45 min. for the tour.
To fully enjoy the site allow up to 2 hrs.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your tour to have your booking confirmed.

  • Are Dogs welcome?

    Dogs are allowed on the grounds they must have a leash at all times.

    Service animals only are allowed in the cafe and the lighthouse

  • How long does the tour take and what does it involve?

    The tour allows approximately 45 mins it takes you through the watchtower and the lighthouse where our trained guides give you a history of the 800 year old lighthouse and tales of monks lighting fires on the headlands prior to the tower being built. You finish your tour on the black railed viewing balcony.

  • Is it suitable for everyone?

    There is a level of fitness required to climb the 115 steps of the lighthouse. And while young children are welcome it is a historical tour and all visitors are required to be mindful of each other.

  • Is there wifi?

    Yes there is free wifi we are connected to the BCP free broadband.

  • Do I need to pre-book?

    We always recommend pre-booking as this ensures your place on tour, we have capacity for 30 visitors per tour. All children also need to be booked in this can be down by using the U5 slot and there is no charge for U5’s. Bookings can be made on www.hookheritage.ie

  • Are the grounds open after hours to the public?

    No, once we close for the day there is strictly no admittance to the grounds.

  • Is it still a working Lighthouse?

    Yes, Hook Lighthouse is still a working Lighthouse.

  • Who operates the Lighthouse?

    Irish Lights operate the working Lighthouse. Visit www.irishlights.ie for information
